Li-Guard fire blankets lead the way in tackling electric car fires

Electric cars fires are exceptionally difficult to tackle … but there’s now a major breakthrough with the Li-Guard fire limitation blanket.

This heavy duty Silicon blanket comes in two sizes – 8m by 6m and 7.5m by 9m – designed to completely cover the overheating or burning vehicles to mitigate the fire and toxic smoke.

The 7.5m by 9m is bigger than all rival products as they tuck underneath the car to prevent the fire exploding out from the sides, helping to contain toxic smoke, gases and bits of the car which may explode in the searing heat.

Fires caused by lithium batteries burn at exceptionally high temperatures and can keep flaring up even after it looks like the flames have been doused which is why they need to be covered by a Li-Guard blanket both at the scene and while being moved to a vehicle recovery yard.

The Li-Guard blankets are also ideal as a precaution while transporting new and second-hand electric cars either on vehicle transporters or on huge cargo vessels at sea.

In July 2023 a fire thought to have started in an electric car swept through the cargo ship Fremantle Highway carrying almost 4,000 cars in the North Sea, leaving it a charred hulk which was eventually towed into port in the north-east of the Netherlands.
